Jelly Belly Introduces New Superfruit Flavors!
Acai Berry Most Often Suggested by Consumers.
FAIRFIELD, CA --- The candy makers known for innovative jelly bean flavors have made history once again with the introduction of the Superfruit Mix, the newest flavors of Jelly Belly® jelly beans. The assortment includes Acai Berry, Barbados Cherry, Cranberry, Blueberry and Pomegranate made with natural flavors, real juices and colors derived from natural sources.
Using superfruits to flavor confections and beverages is a top flavor trend for this year, according to industry trackers.
The new Jelly Belly Acai Berry flavor of jelly bean has the dark, rich color of the berry native to the Amazon. Its complex flavor tastes of exotic berries with delicious notes of chocolate, typical of real acai berries. It is made with real acai berry juice. Acai (pronounced ahh-sigh-ee) Berry was suggested by a majority of consumers who responded to an invitation by Jelly Belly Candy Company for suggestions for new flavors and was the winning flavor among consumers who voted for the best new idea.
Barbados cherry is an emerging superfruit making appearances in food and beauty products. The new Barbados Cherry Jelly Belly bean is a natural take on the tropical tart cherry and is made with the real fruit juice. Barbados cherries, also known as acerola cherry, grow in the West Indies, Brazil, Jamaica and the northern areas of South America.
Other flavors in the Jelly Belly Superfruit collection are Blueberry, Cranberry and Pomegranate, all made with real juices and purees. The Superfruit Mix supplies 25% of the Daily Value of Vitamin C. All five flavors are made with colors derived from natural sources such as purple carrot juice, black currants, grape skins and hibiscus. In addition the company developed a new jelly bean recipe for this collection of flavors using tapioca syrup and evaporated cane juice, a less processed form of refined white sugar.
